Therapy

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)

CBT is a talking therapy which looks at the relationship between our thoughts, feelings, and actions and how our bodies feel. When we are low or upset it is easy to fall into patterns of thinking or responding that can worsen how we feel. CBT works to help us be able to identify and change unhelpful thinking styles or behavioural patterns so that we can feel better. The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) recommends CBT as evidence based treatment for Generalised Anxiety Disorder, Depression, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Body Dysmorphic Disorder, Panic Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and Social Anxiety.

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)

EMDR is a powerful therapy which can help people recover from problems triggered by traumatic life events. EMDR is supported the World Health Organisation (WHO) and NICE and is best known for its use in the treatment of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) although it can be used to treat a range of mental health difficulties.

About Therapy

Our first session will be an assessment and this usually takes about 80 minutes. This is an opportunity for us to get to know each other, as well as for us to discuss what brings you to therapy and what you would like to achieve from the process. At the end of the assessment it is your decision as to whether you wish to book another appointment or if you would like to take some time to consider whether I am the right therapist for you to work with.

For the main part of your therapy subsequent sessions will be conducted on a weekly basis and will be 50 minutes long. Depending on the therapy you are undertaking some sessions may be up to 90 minutes long but we will always agree this in advance. A course of therapy varies in length from person to person however the average number of sessions is around twelve up to a maximum of 20.
